TTC has an excellent track record in the leisure and recreation field. Specialising in land use issues we have provided a service to public bodies, community groups and others with a need to understand and plan for the development of recreational facilities. Ranging from site and capacity analysis to the development of specialist strategies - such as Off-Road Horse Riding we have brought together many skills to inform and inspire clients. Our recommendations as ever are practical and implementable and are fully costed and sustainable.
Signage Strategy for Long Distance Walking Routes
The
Countryside Access & Activities network in Northern Ireland commissioned
TTC to develop a signage strategy for long distance walking routes. This
embraced the Ulster Way , Waymarked Ways and more informal routes. The
review drew on best practise in Europe and made recommendations which
are now being implemented.
Hillsborough Castle Gardens
TTC
was commissioned by the Northern Ireland Office to undertake a review
of the management and maintenance of the Historic Landscaped Gardens of
Hillsborough Castle - once the home of the Governor of Northern Ireland
and now the Secretary of State's residence. Best practise in a number
of major gardens in England and Northern Ireland was drawn on and a future
development plan set in place which can return the gardens to their original
state.
Off-Road Horse Riding
TTC
developed an Off-Road Horse Riding Strategy for the Countryside Access
& Activities Network in Northern Ireland. The strategy set a baseline
of existing provision and considered the demand for off-road riding. Using
best practise exemplars in the North of England for route implementation
such as the Pennines Way we recommended a series of short, medium and
long distance routes located strategically across the country. The strategy
was costed and involved extensive consultation. It is now being implemented.
Environment & Heritage Park
The
Ligoniel Improvement Association and Belfast Development Office commissioned
TTC to undertake a Feasibility Study for a park at Ligoniel fringing on
the Belfast Hills - part of which the National Trust is acquiring. The
study examined land use and acquisition issues and aimed to achieve a
sustainable solution for a community asset. Development costs and maintenance
with interpretation and future usage were key issues .
Rural Land Use For Recreation
Cookstown
District Council commissioned TTC to examine the potential recreational
uses for a major opportunity site at Desertcreat near Cookstown. The study
examined a range of uses - including championship golf and motor sports.
It concluded that low key use would be possible for walking and horse
riding in the woodland fringing the lands but that major recreational
investment would not be economically viable.
International PLC
TTC
was commissioned by an international PLC to examine the feasibility of
a major holiday village, in a coastal area of Northern Ireland. The project
involved a blend of recreational and tourism, aiming to provide a sustainable
development that would have made a major impact on the local economy.
Parliament Buildings, Stormont
TTC
and Heritage Retailing were commissioned by the Assembly to examine the
retail opportunities at the Northern Ireland Assembly and to consider
their usage by visitors. The task involved surveying Assembly Members,
seeking views on use and on visitors and in developing an action plan
that would enhance the visitor experience and the services to the Members.
Benchmarking with Westminster, the Dail and the Scottish parliament was
a key part of the undertaking.
